Thayer Park

Thayer Park and St. James’ Episcopal Church (before the sanctuary was enlarged in 1899). I love the way the person tinting this postcard stopped about halfway down the eastern shoreline, as if from exhaustion. Or perhaps they were called away.

  1. Postcards were not legal until after 1900 (maybe as late as 1904). It is interesting that the view chosen was a pre 1899 one. I would imagine that the back side of the postcard is undivided which would date it to before 1907. The chancel of the Episcopal Church was enlarged probably due to the influence of the Anglo-Catholic rector who wanted to place a larger focus on the altar.
